Budapest

Budapest is the new weekend break hotspot for the Irish. The Irish have varied agendas when arriving in Hungary- many go to buy property, to get cheap dental treatment, or simply to go ‘normal’ shopping. From antiques to crystals, jewellery and the latest fashion to local food and drink specialties - you can find it all either in the elegant boutiques of the city centre or in one of the many large American style shopping malls. And if you're tired after all that shopping- sit yourself down in a typical Hungarian coffee house and sample the delicious confectionary- it really is a must!

Budapest’s nightlife- food and drink

Local beer comes in half litre measures and usually less than €2 in bars, or 75 cent in a supermarket- it’s 5% abv, a little higher in alcohol content than in Ireland. Local ‘champagne’ (actually sparkling wine) cost less than €4 in supermarkets and is renowned to be as good as the French version.

If you are looking for and Irish pub try Beckett’s on 1055 Budapest, Bajcsy Zsilinszky út 72. They have live music every night. Beautiful Hungarian Staff and the best pub grub in Budapest. Beware it’s one of the busiest spots in town during Grand Prix week.

Budapest - Ferihegy (BUD):  Location: 16 km/10 Miles SE of the City.

Flights from Ireland usually arrive in Terminal 2A or 2B, make sure you know which terminal you are departing from for your return journey

By Taxi to the city: Taxis are available from the airport at the taxi stand but their fares can be unregulated, so, if there is no meter, agree a fare before leaving the airport.
